JF in the News: MAGA Offers Fresh Pushback on Trump’s Immigration Policies
President Trump is facing a fresh round of criticism from the conservative MAGA wing of the Republican Party, this time over his defense of bringing foreign workers into the U.S. on visas.
In an interview with Fox News host Laura Ingraham, Trump argued the U.S. needs H-1B visas because the country is in need of people with “certain” talents to carry out particular jobs.
The comments quickly led to a meltdown among some of the president’s staunchest supporters, who were already voicing their discontent with the president for defending his call for 600,000 Chinese students to attend higher education institutions in the US.
The response among Trump’s MAGA faithful is laying bare a deep divide among conservatives over immigration.
“I was appalled,” said John Fredericks, a conservative talk show host and chair of Trump’s 2016 and 2020 campaigns in Virginia.
“I agree with the president and everything he’s done on just about every single issue, and he’s been the greatest president in history in my view for what he’s doing and what he’s done, but these are two issues where I adamantly oppose both,” he said.
MAGA figures and influencers were quick to voice their displeasure with Trump’s remarks.
